Looks like it was an EB50 with 101k miles.
That was a good deal.

Re: What's a Holy Grail Worth?

I really appreciate all the feedback.

I was thinking more in the $45k to $48K range primarily due to the mileage and the non EB50 layout. $50K max (if perfect mech). It has most of the right stuff on it for sure. Still going back and forth on price with seller.

I base the $45K to 48K on other sales adjusted for equip deltas. I also think doing a brand new conversion to a pre-owned 2003 7.3 van ourselves would be a bit higher than that price.

So, 7.3 Van w/ less than 100k mi = $11,000
CCV top, Agile 4x4, full interior build out, bumpers, etc. ALL BRAND NEW $$40,000 to $43,000 ??
Total $50 to $55K

That is new AGM batteries, 2014 spec goodies/solar, nothing that is 11 years old in terms of wear and/or out dated tech, and it would be built to exactly what we want using today's materials.

(getting hard to find 7.3 is only issue, but I could start with our V10 that is already 4WD, lo mi, known and has many of the pieces already, just add top, interior and bumpers)

Cost is time, but the result would be worth it vs $55k for the 2003 SMB plus $5k for anticipated changes / updates.

Maybe I am dreaming I am open to a reality check discussion.

Re: What's a Holy Grail Worth?

In these types of situations, I always look at the cost of replacing vs. the cost of building. How much would you be able to get if you sold your current van? For the sake of round numbers, lets say $20k. That means you would have to come out of pocket $35k to purchase the silver van you posted. To put a CCV top on your van, that would cost around $8,000? That leaves you with $27k to put towards your interior build out. I don't know what Van Specialties would charge for a "50" style buildout, but I feel like it wouldn't cost $27k. Even if it costs $15k, that leaves you with $12k for bumpers and other accessories. This is just my opinion and I really don't know the real numbers of what these things cost, but I feel that its in the ball park from what I've read on this forum.

Now if you want to get away from the V10 and get a diesel, then you will have to sell your van.

Re: What's a Holy Grail Worth?

Just goes to show you how different people value the same item. Personally, I think that rig would be better priced in the mid-$40's, maybe the upper $40's. I think it's significantly overpriced.

Re: What's a Holy Grail Worth?

Kind of high priced and would think 50K might be more realistic but would have to have an electric top. Maybe if it had all Espar stuff I'd pump up the price from 50K a bit. It does look clean.

Re: What's a Holy Grail Worth?

Is this thing still for sale? If it did not work out for you, would you share the owner classified info?

Thanks

Re: What's a Holy Grail Worth?

Sorry, never had direct contact info, it was on a used car consignment lot. Asking was $59,995. Salesman said owner took it back after it sat for TWO months without selling and offers in the high $30's to low $40's, all rejected and not countered by the seller. Found out the van had been purchased for around $50k a couple of months ago. Seems like seller was trying a flip for $10k profit as the desired out come.

If he is serious about selling it will show up again, this time with contact info, and perhaps a more realistic expectations.

Re: What's a Holy Grail Worth?

The price was probably at least somewhat inflated to offset the commission from the lot is was for sale on.
