Pretty dumb the carriers dont all come with something like artic has. For the price of these things that little pin and extra holes would be zero skin off their backs.
On mine I keep all the bolts tight enough that it stays exactly where I leave it. If I don’t keep the bolts that tight the thing rattles itself so bad that all the bolts loosen up and the tire shakes all over the place.
I also modded mine so the tire actually rests on the bumper instead of the carrier bearing all the weight. I could see my 33” tire bouncing around on the carrier when driving down bumpy roads. after seeing a few examples of the units cracking and needing to be repaired I was scared bumping up to a 35” tire (and heavier wheel) would kill it off. Since I needed a new adapter plate to go from 8x165 to 8x170 I just designed the plate so the tire would sit lower on the carrier. Couple of added features ended up being easier to see over the tire in the rear view mirror and significantly easier to get the heavyass 35” wheel and tire combo back onto the thing.
How these folks that keep their spares up on the roof rack get them up there on these huge vans is beyond me, lol. I’d kill myself...
