2008 E-350 D 4x4 EB-50

2008 SMB E-350 EB 50 4x4 115,000 miles

I have heard this model referred to as the “Ur-Sportsmobile”. When the engineers at Sportsmobile were asked to design their personal rigs, with cost as no object, this is the configuration that they came up with. This is the van that Alan Feld drives. Sprinters are nice, but they are “road-biased”. This is a true off-road capable van. That being said, I have only driven this rig on pavement. The miles that I have put on it have been pavement miles. No off road, no rock crawling, no dirt roads. This van has always been covered and has been embarrassingly pampered. It has been meticulously cared for and it is in superb condition. The head gaskets have not been replaced, but an upgraded EGR unit has been installed, along with an aftermarket coolant filter. Neither I nor the Previous Owner ever towed with this vehicle. It has all the specifications that this Uber type of van comes with, and all the maintenance is up to date and certified.

2008 e-350 "ur" smb

Update on post: This van is an EB-50, interior is white and in excellent condition, it has the Aluminess front and rear bumpers, tire carrier and large box, awning, Espar diesel cabin and hot water heaters, huge stereo system, everything is in excellent running condition. After being in storage for two years I just finished a 100K mile service on the van. Here are the tasks that were accomplished to achieve the state of readiness and maintenance that currently exist:

Installed new batteries. “Van” batteries, Odessey x 2, $750 L $200 “House” batteries, Lifeline 4DL x 2 $1,340 Labor, Field Van, Reno, $ 600

Install 8 new injectors (improved design), All new filters: 2 Amsoil bypass, 2 fuel, 1 coolant filter (SinisterDiesel), air filter $6,036
————————————————————————————————---------------
$8,926

Nor-Cal Automotive, Powerstroke specialists, performed all the factory mandated diagnostic tests: Injector buzz test, power balance test, relative compression test, fuel pressure test, oil pressure test, plus extensive road test. The van passed all these tests with excellent results.
After an injector failed I could have just replaced the 4 injectors on the offending side and called it good. But that is not the philosophy that I have followed in maintaining this van: I research the best parts and the best shops and do what is necessary to maintain that standard of excellence in the van. That is why I chose to replace all the injectors at one time, so that they are all the same age and so reliability remains excellent. I drove the van to Sportsmobile Fresno to get the electronics and solar system serviced, to Reno to get the House batteries changed, to Nor-Cal to get the 100K service done. I spared no effort at maintaining this rig to the highest standard possible. While I was concerned about 6.0 head gasket failure, the engine in the van is tuned 80 hp lower than the truck engine, neither I nor the PO (previous owner) towed, and since I live in a cold climate, that risk is low with this engine.

It is not just the money invested in these maintenance items, it is also the time, energy, research, hassle, the running back and forth, the rental cars and hotel rooms…. Unless you own a repair shop yourself it is a huge hassle to achieve all these actions yourself and do it to the highest standards possible. Please consider that when you contemplate the purchase price of this, or any SMB. With this rig you can jump in and it is ready for anything that you wish to throw at it.

Thank you,

Thanks Sid, I am sorry I did not see that is was posted on Craigslist. Can you tell me the wattage of the solar panels? Do you have the missing door off the cabinets? What Stereo is installed? Does it have front ARB lockers or rear locker? Does it have onboard air? Does it have under rear storage? Roof Rack, I can’t tell by the pictures? Are the seats leather or cloth? Manual or electronic pop top? Cooktop or sink? Thanks Brad

Sid, I see the faucet in the pictures so must have a sink and the front seats look like leather. So disregard those questions.
