Star Cool Question !

Greetings All,

So my chassis AC is out and is being replaced. Knowing that the Star Cool system in the van pulls freon from the chassis system - when a vacuum is pulled on the chassis system - does that vacuum also pull from the Star Cool automatically - or is there a special procedure to do to vacuum the Star Cool lines/system also ? Any valves needed to be open on the Star Cool as the entire van system is vacuumed, etc ? Any Threads on this procedure ?

I'm thinking if there's "crud" in the Star Cool and it's NOT vacuumed also along with the chassis system - any crud in the Star Cool will infiltrate the new chassis system and - Here we go again !??

Am I right ?

The chassis path goes thru the Starcool compressor and evaporator, the key is making sure the fill it with the correct amount Ford (4.5 lbs.) , not the standard amount.

That’s a good question, and if your engine compressor pumped particles into the system, there is the possibility that stuff got into the Starcool compressor. At a minimum, the system should be flushed. The Starcool system will complicate this procedure. There is a solenoid that isolates the star cool compressor while the engine is running so that needs to be taken into consideration.

So I'll post this as a follow up -- has anyone had to replace their Star Cool AC system - and if so - what did you replace it with - a DanHard ? -- any other options ?
Appreciate any replies - especially with make - model - install issues ? Thanks !

Back again - hypothetical re StarCool - no problem at present - BUT - knowing that the StarCool shares the extra freon with/from the chassis AC - if my StarCool goes down - if I have an AC shop pull the extra 8 ounces out - will the chassis AC NOT freeze up - and allow normal chassis AC to run correctly ? Remember - I'm "brain dead" as mentioned in my other posts on the forum !

Nope, it unfortunately is not that easy, they're pretty much tightly coupled.
