I've kinda been going through the same issues looking for a small/light weight/quiet 1000W generator to occasionally carry on certain trips. I got a smoking deal on the ALP 1000W propane generator. I haven't had a chance to use it yet, but it's supposed to get 60 hours of run time on a 20lb tank & 3 hours on a 1lb tank. It's also pretty quiet and light weight. My thinking is if it doesn't work out I'm pretty sure I could easily sell it for what I paid for it.

Honda alternative.

I used a Honda 2000w for many years. I sold it when someone paid me more than the cost of new when I displayed it in my yard as "bait" in a garage sale.

I replaced it with a generac 2200 watt inverter model. I like this one better. It was half the price. If i need help Generac will spend all the time on the phone i need. Its just as quiet (to my ears) and runs great.

A buddy of mine tried to get a Honda shipped to CA a few weeks ago, he could find the Honda EU2200i which WAS the CA approved model but nobody would ship to CA. A little further research turned up info that Honda apparently violated some CA CARB deal and is getting their hand slapped, I cannot say exactly what this means for the future availability of Honda generators in CA but I am certain this is at the root of the issue.

That said, make a drive out of state and get what you want. CA is run by idiots currently. A decade ago you had to go to Nevada or Arizona to get a toilet that flush properly as CA banned higher water consuming toilets. Now days you need to go out of state for toilets, shower heads, ammo, generators and gas powered lawn mowers and leaf blowers!

It's OK though, I am certain CA will approve the new plug in generator any day now to solve all our power problems. ;-)
