Re: World's Toughest Bridge

Here's a video of the world's weakest bridge. Well, maybe not weakest but it only scored 2 out 100 on its last inspection. My van with trailer was too heavy to go across after its last weight limit downgrade. They finally shoved the thing out of the way so they can put up a new bridge. (and yes, it is still open for traffic).

Re: World's Toughest Bridge

After that many hits, you'd think who is in charge of traffic management would add a slightly better warning system

Great place to set up a tow service though.

Re: World's Toughest Bridge

How hard would it be to dig the road a bit deeper underneath the 11'8" bridge???

The last article I read on the Sellwood said that it is actually stronger on the temporary supports than on the old permanent ones. But you still can't drive your van across it (and neither can I)...

That is the Sellwood bridge that runs across the Willamette River between Portland and Milwaukie, Oregon. If I remember correctly it was moved the beginning of January or end of December. Trucks and busses have been banned from it for years. Lots of politicking went on with the funding and alignment. The new bridge is about two years out.
