Stranded for the night on bridge between Guatemala and Mexico! Great memories, but I do not recommend it.

Alabama Hills 4/2020

Social Distance in Nature. So many dispersed campers in the Alabama Hills. Everyone was having a great time.

Are the Alabama Hills open? I was wanting to head out there for a trip but heard through some friends that the roads were gated off and they were ticketing people.

So good ?
When I went in the middle of April, the website said Alabama Hills closed. I expected to drive up there and see nobody. The place was packed. We arrived on Friday and people were dispersed camping everywhere. Everyone was respecting each other’s space. All campgrounds were closed and gated, we didn’t see anyone on Desert Toys. There were no rangers or anyone ticketing. But I did see that the 395 was closed recently from the 58.

Service Road 328. A great option just .8 miles from the South Rim Grand Canyon entrance. Lots of turn outs for vehicles of all sizes.

About three weeks ago we found this idyllic spot behind the Sawtooth NRA's Ketchum Visitor Center. Only had one night to enjoy it, but it was right next to the creek and nobody camped within 3 miles. Looked like the FS had stockpiled some boulders nearby, so access to this and nearby sites may be closed soon.
