Mac, looks like a fabulous time for a one day trip. Someday I'll see that area. Nice pictures and report.

Re: Fall Trip Through the Uinta Mountains of Utah
Looks great Mac and the pictures came out fantastic IMO. I drove right by that area a few years back coming back from Yellowstone and never knew it was there. Thanks.

When I was a kid, I used to ride my 10-speed bicycle from Evanston up into the Uintas. I would chain lock my bike to a tree and then backpack into the Uinta Wilderness Area to camp and fish for a couple of days. It was great back then. But now I look back and realize how dangerous that was since no one ever knew which trail I might take. I never knew until I got there.
I also used to explore alone inside the abandoned Almy coal mines near Evanston when I was a kid. (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Almy,_Wyoming) Again, I'd ride my bike the six miles out of town, chain it to a fence post, and then explore any of the 30 or more open mine tunnels. Inside I would find mine cars, lanterns, tools, empty boxes, and all sorts of treasures. I explored those mines many times over several years. And each time I did, I was alone and no one knew which tunnel I had entered. Sometimes I would go back many thousands of feet through various branches of the tunnels.
I guess kids were more durable back then because no one ever seemed to worry about me. And, of course, I never worried about getting hurt. And I survived! I wonder if we really need to be as protective of our kids today as some seem to think? But we do live in a different world!

Re: Fall Trip Through the Uinta Mountains of Utah
Some good fall color and places that are close by, but have never been to. I just got back from exploring southeastern Utah and now I need to find time to explore northeastern Utah.
Always enjoy reading your trip reports. Thanks
Mike

Re: Fall Trip Through the Uinta Mountains of Utah
I too spent a lot of time in the Uinta Mountains, hunting and exploring. Beautiful country and a place I often consider as a second home location some day.
