Re: Obscure Word
English derivation of the classic (and modern) Greek word "phrontisterion," appearing most famously (to a few of us) in Aristophanes' comedy "The Clouds," where it is used to refer to Socrates' "school." In this case often translated as "thinkery." In today's Greece it's a private school to which parents send their budding genius kids (at great expense) to learn math, or foreign languages, or physics, or whatever, well enough to get into university (since the average secondary school doesn't do such a hot job). Aristophanes penned the quote I used elsewhere in response to another of Jage's challenging posts - "brekekekex koAX koAX." Now THAT is obscure! But then we named our beloved SMB "Spitaki."

Re: Obscure Word
I guess this is the "intellectual" version of the dancing tomato thread.
