I did much the same with VHB tape and Dicor self leveling lap sealant to mount a 2nd solar panel on the roof of our travel trailer with aluminum angle iron, held up great, no issues. Just hope you never need to pull it off.

VHB tape is used to hold glass units weighing over 300 lbs in aluminum framing on buildings. Just make sure to follow install instructions.

It's all finished! looks great. Glad I didn't have to drill 14 holes in the roof.

I'll post back if it ever flys off but i doubt it.

I used this tape if anyone else is interested

Nice job! I would have expected the sealant to level more but should be great. The aerodynamics of the solar should deflect a lot of wind pressure too. Looks like a very permanent fix.

I redid the rooftop on s stepvan and replaced one of the three a/c with the same fan. Used silicon sealer as the glue and sat it in there. Agree on not wanting all the holes in the roof. I have noticed that the silicone will release s slick surface after a few years so I’ll have to keep an eye on it.
