Bungee on penthouse top

The past few times when lowering the top ...canvas has stuck outside the van. Had to raise top and pull on canvas to get it inside. The lower bungee seems to have lost some of its strength. Any suggestions on a fix or do we need a new bungee.

Re: Bungee on penthouse top

Pull a length of it through the endhook such that it feels tight "enough" and tie a new knot in the cord, cut off the excess... and you may get a good bit more use out of it.

Re: Bungee on penthouse top

After you cut the bungee melt the ends with a lighter. The melted end will keep it from fraying.

Just checking; You do have a door or window open, don't you?

If the stretch is gone, get in touch with SMB and they can sell you a replacement cut to the correct length.

Re: Bungee on penthouse top

Thought I'd revive this thread to say I just got some at Harbor freight tools.$10.00 for 25'. I bought green to match my van stripes. My bungee just stretched out of shape seemingly over night. Weird. I didn't call SMB so I don't know what their's costs but I didn't want to wait for shipping. I wandered into Harbor freight on a whim and was shocked to find it in red, blue, green and black.

Stan, I need to do this. How much did it take? I'm assuming probably one 25' roll per bungee, so 2 rolls needed?
