Re: DIY Aluminum Underfloor Storage

I'm planning some underfloor storage on my SWB chevy. the available areas are irregular in shape and would be hard to make. has anyone ever tried flexible underfloor storage? the military uses some very tough fabric for fuel and water bladders.
if you had a fabric bag rivited to a ridgid framed opening it would conform to any underfloor shape.

That's an interesting approach, but I think would depend on what you wanted to store in it. If you do go that way, make sure you have some integrated cinch straps so that once it's full, you can cinch it up to keep the sway down.

To purchase a box you just need to email me the details of your van (EB vs RB), opening size limitations, lid and departure angle mods (if wanted). I'll work up an invoice with an estimated shipping cost and then wait for a paypal payment from you.

Right now I have three boxes to build this week so lead time would be at least next week before I get it out.

Cheers,

Sam

Re: DIY Aluminum Underfloor Storage

Received by box from Sam for by RB last Thursday and got it installed this weekend.

Fantastic quality build and craftsmanship!! Sam's attention to detail is impressive and inspiring.

If you're interested in this, follow the steps on this post and here:
viewtopic.php?f=44&t=6838

Also, tmtm has a detailed, complete install post as well:
viewtopic.php?f=13&t=7407

I ordered by box with these dimensions:
21.5" (front to back) x 15.5" deep x 32" wide, with 8" in and 3" up departure angle mod

This measurement (under the van, where the spare tire used to live) is important, between the tabs. Mine is 21.75" (not my photo), so I ordered it a bit smaller at 21.5":

The only modification I did was to add 4 sheet metal screws (one shown here on the left) in order to hold the lid flange tight to the box flange:

Here's the finished install :

Now I need to get started on finding a new home for my spare tire...

Thanks Sam - great work

Phil

Re: DIY Aluminum Underfloor Storage

Here are a few photos Sam sent of the complete box, prior to shipping. I was too excited to get started on the installation to take any "before" photos of my own...

I might be able to get you on the right track if you're near Vancouver BC... Shoot me a Pm if you're considering one.

Cheers
