Front Door Panel Fitment Between 92-07 and 08+

Hi All,

Anyone know if the front door panels for the 08+ econolines are backward compatible with the 92-07 vans?

The doors look to be the same dimensions from the outside but wasn't sure if the hole patterns changed. I did notice the door handle is slightly different so I'd likely have to get new handles, but the placement looks the same at a glance. I like the door pockets way better on the 08+ so that's really my motivation to do this to my 2006. Any input is greatly appreciated!

If no one knows I'll just go to the junkyard and figure it out haha. I'll update this thread if I find anything out on my own.

Cheers,
Eddie

I just did mine and they swapped no problem. Finding the manual window panels took a while.

Check out this thread on the complexities of electronic compatibility with the door panels.

Yeah I was hoping to just find manual door panels from an 08+ for an easy swap since mine is all manual. Funny you should mention swapping electronics though.... while I was searching today I thought "hmm maybe I can add power windows and locks". Well, I spent about 3hrs at the jy today trying to pull the full loom of wires all the way to the fuse box from an 08, and then took them over to an 07 van to see how things marry up for plug-n-play. Long story short, they changed up the colors and the fuse boxes are totally different between 07-08 (or at least that was the case for the two vans I was experimenting on). I think it's definitely possible but it would be very involved and time consuming. Given that electronics aren't my strong suit, I eventually cut my loses and decided crank windows weren't so bad haha. I found a manual 08 door panel so now I jut need to wait for a drivers side panel.

If my van were already wired for power windows and locks, I would definitely go with the switch modification that you suggested. But running a whole new loom and transferring all of the guts from door to door looks like a PITA.

Surf around the net there are posts of people that have added power windows to their manual vans. It didn't seem too bad.

There are also threads about swapping out the switches, or the bezel mod as mentioned in an earlier posting here, which uses the older style switches in the newer bezel.

I have done some digging to swap my 02 panels and switches to the 08 and newer style. The info in the 08 and up wiring seems to be where my info search falls off. It's my understanding the wire colors may have changed over the years since 08. I want just to know where the 08 and up wires go to in laymans terms. The 07 and older wiring is fairly easy to trace. The "can" system started in 08 make things a bit more challenging, but it the mod has be done, just not well documented.

I have a manual driver's door panel you can have, but it's from a 2013 so it's the later style. If you're interested, just let me know.
