Sorry it took me so long to post my dilemma. Fortunately, John Kalmbach contacted me and said,"black butyl is the type of sealant used. You can use a black RTV silicone type sealant to seal any openings that might appear. If the canvas is torn, you can use the repair kits for convertible car tops. But make sure you get the vinyl impregnated canvas repair kit; if you have a choice." My canvas wasn't torn; and the hole was actually smaller than I originally thought--funny how that happens...so I used the silicone sealant and it worked perfectly. By the way, the water leaking in wasn't from that hole; it was from the 3rd top brake light on the PHT -- the silicone had worn off and the light was barely in; but out enough that water was pouring in (especially with the sideways rain we get a lot of here!) So my thanks to John Kalmbach for saving my day!! --Claire
