Re: Rock Slide Retractable Steps

I just got off the phone with Steve at Rock Slide Engineering and he feels he will be able to adapt to my rig. I had sent him pics of my equipment in question that Lance didn't have on his van. Once he gets Tom's van down there he will be able to look at the situation we are in. Because each van is slightly different, hopefully they will be able to come up with a design that covers all builds. Problems I need to check are:
>>Location of the propane door. (SMB has used several different models)
>>Power plugs. (I have 110vAC in, 110vAC out, and 2 12vAC)
>>Water inlet and drain valves.
>>Starcool 110AC compressor.
>>Espar muffler and air inlet.

I don't think the flat plate will be a problem but Steve thinks they will be able to overcome any issue. I just hope I don't end up staying in Utah for a week to get these things on.

I would suggest that everybody crawl under your rig and take pictures of anything that might be an issue. Even the drain valves end up at different locations from van to van coming off the line at SMB. The more pictures they can look at, the more they will be able to make one product that fits all applications.

Dave

Re: Rock Slide Retractable Steps

Tom,

How about an update on the sliders. I spoke with Steve last week and he said that he was planning on installing yours soon. How's it going?

They're working on it. They have the right side fitted--everything is fitting well.

Re: Rock Slide Retractable Steps

Tom has one side on but they are configuring the actuators to move faster. I hope they hurry and get them made soon. My hope was before it gets too cold...I might have to wait till spring and my knees aren't happy with that.

Rock Slide Retractable Steps

The new actuators are done, but I've been on the road for the last couple weeks. I'll take the rig in next week after I get it cleaned up.

Re: Rock Slide Retractable Steps

FYI, had a quick conversation with Steve just now and he stated he should have 5 sets ready around December 5th.

They look great. Anyone making a trip from SoCal up there for a set?

Re: Rock Slide Retractable Steps

Great!!

Glad to hear that the actuators are done. I'll be driving up for my install around December 14th. Can't wait to see them on the van.

Re: Rock Slide Retractable Steps

*Update*

Stopped by RSE today. They ended up redesigning the actuator mounting system to make it adjustable--a good idea. Now each step can be tuned to each actuator. The custom SMB actuators are being overnighted from Canada as I write this. First week in 2012 for me and Bighodad.
