Thank you for the pictures. Yeah that's what I was thinking.. if it's mounted high enough, it could be used as an extra inside table with the door closed, as well as an outside table with the door open. I can't use my small side door - couch is in the way, but I think it will fit on the larger side door. That puts it in the "kitchen" and may also be usable from the passenger swivel seat. I guess just so long as it's not too large to block entry/exit.

We used Häfele "Hinged Spring Brackets, 40 kg" for the flip-up table in our van. ( https://www.hafele.ca/en/product/hin...SKU=P-00862206). They are lower profile than the ones boywonder mentioned. They have worked well for us.

A couple of ideas that I used for my tables that may be helpful when using the flip up bracket design. My table is a solid maple 1 1/4" thick plank and I machined a 1/2" deep groove on the underside of table to accept nearly all of one side of the bracket to lower the profile, seems to work really well. Also, a magnet was attached to the bottom underside of table and one to the door to hold the table in place while closing the door and while driving.

Well, I guess I cannot post a picture...looks like I need a block of instructions. I did create an album but not sure how to attach the pictures.

2 great ideas - thanks. I was wondering whether some kind of lock would be needed to secure the table in the "stowed" position. I have been thinking that these spring-loaded pins could be used to lock the table against the door.

For photos, click on "Go Advanced" at the bottom of the text field. Then click on "Manage Attachments" in the additional options towards the bottom. Then choose file to attach. Make sure to click on upload.

The groove was cut with a cnc router but I'm sure there are several other approaches. The magnets are from amazon, and I did countersink the hole in the center to ensure the magnets are flush with each other. They are pretty strong magnets and do keep the table stowed while driving.
