Re: House Battery Problems

Wide (1") high strength, black (UV resistant) cable ties are available, maybe we should send a pack to SMB as a hint

Re: House Battery Problems

In another thread, there is a discussion of the zip ties not being what is holding the batteries in. There is a sealant that is used as the primary attachment. While I respect the source of that information very much, let's just say that I still crawl under the van and check the zip ties. The ties that I had were not as big as the ones shown in K9Sprinter picture, so maybe they did upgrade to something with more strength. I essentially have two of the size shown in the picture now. To date I have not had another problem in that area, I also put some conduit over that section of the cable to protect it from rubbing on the frame.

Re: House Battery Problems

In my line of work we have had problems with white Zip Ties even in underground facilities. Maybe SMB is using a tie that is similar to the black ties or maybe they don't know the issues with white ties? The batteries are heavy and AGM's can take a pounding but best to add or replace the white styles. Have I done it? Nope. One more for the list I guess.

Re: House Battery Problems

My "sealant" was NOT holding the battery in, it is just enough to keep the battery from sliding around in the tray. Also both of my zip ties were broken.

What was actually holding my battery in was the van floor- there is a plastic cover on top of the battery and there is not enough room between the tray and floor for the battery to pop out.

I can't say I came up with a better solution however. While my tray is tighter, it's not holding the batteries in and I actually went across the batteries with black zip ties, instead of tying the handles down. I recall intending to return and do something better, but I was mentally and physically exhausted at the time. Need to remember to do that!
