Re: Mileage on diesels - BullyDogs - Redline 85 Plus
Hopefully it will take a good grade paper filter as well. That would be very important to me.

Re: Mileage on diesels - BullyDogs - Redline 85 Plus
Daveb and Scatter ,
I had the Zylstra Air Box installed today and posted photographs in my gallery . Upon completion of the 1 hour forty five minute installation , I left Visalia and traveled to Oakhurst Ca. I noticed a mild difference in low end performance while leaving Visalia and a substantial difference in the top end , how much I don't really know only the Dyno will tell . I can say that at temperatures at around 100 degrees on my return home to Azusa Ca. I was able to cruise with much less heat build up and with a more responsive pedal . Milage seem to increase in spite of the ambient temperatures encountered on my return home , about 1 mile per gallon as near as I can tell . The amount of air surrounding the filter has increased at least three fold with this new system and I am happy with this improvement and will hopefully get it on the Dyno next week , time permitting . Daveb the filter is a high end AFE brand Flanged filter that can be serviced with much more ease than the stock unit and I was very pleased when I pulled the Grapevine at speeds never before obtained . Sean Zylstra is looking for a source of throw away filters and must custom fit the Air Box as the variations from Van to Van vary . I know that both you and Scatter would be more than able to do your own installs with decent instructions .

Re: Mileage on diesels - BullyDogs - Redline 85 Plus
Thanks for the info Greggde. At 1 hour away I'll just let them do the job. So is the filter a typical micro fiber paper? I still don't trust an oil charged type filter like a K&N.
Dave.

Re: Mileage on diesels - BullyDogs - Redline 85 Plus
Daveb ,
This filter appears to be different Material than the K&M types that I have previously used in my District 37 racing days , very sturdy with a lot of surface area . I noticed this A.M. that it seems to idle along better than before as well , maybe just a placebo , but so far so good .

Re: Mileage on diesels - BullyDogs - Redline 85 Plus
Greggde - Where's the inlet for the new air box. Do they still get it from around the left headlight? If so, how does it provide more air??

Re: Mileage on diesels - BullyDogs - Redline 85 Plus
Scatter ,
Yes it is routed from this same location , the difference is that basically the new filter is suspended in the large cavity that was required for just the box on the stock filter . On my 2007 their are a number of smaller holes in the body panels that will allow some additional air flow . I plan to look around in this compartment for places to enlarge or add additional holes that will not effect the structural integrity . Just the elimination of the large space grabbing bulbous box should make for a difference and if you look at your OEM flat filters wear area you notice a 6 or 7" area only where the air was being funneled thru 2/3 rds of my stock filter was not even being used .

Re: Mileage on diesels - BullyDogs - Redline 85 Plus
Can you still use a paper filter? The red filter looks like a K&N rechargable filter.

Re: Mileage on diesels - BullyDogs - Redline 85 Plus
daveb .
The filter is a aFE rechargeable , Sean is looking for a source of the paper throw away filters for those of you not desiring the rechargeable type . I ran the Van up the San Gabriel Canyon
this morning an found that it pulled the grade with more speed at fewer RPM's and less shifting than previously . Not a huge difference but enough to make me happy .

Thanks Greggde for the detailed feedback and pictures.
Will keep this option in mind.
