Good catch, I expect that is attached to the 30 amp passenger or driver side circuit, that small wire probably would have smoked before the fuse blew.

I use these style of heat shrink connectors for most stuff. The heat shrink has a bit of glue in it that does a good job of sealing the ends.

^^ I use those too. They work very well IMO. Bought a large stash of them last year when I was doing a lot of wiring work in the van.
