Re: Hi Lift jack and mounting
I have to agree with mounting the jack in an easily accessible location because when you need it you usually need it now and in good working order. I have used the 60" Hi-Lift for tire changes, a come-a-long, and lifting the vehicle out of muddy ruts. The 60" is invaluable for recovery. I have always kept my Hi-Lift attached to the front bumper whether on the Defender or SMB. It is easy to access, clean, and keep an eye on. Here is a picture of where I mounted the Hi-Lift on the SMB. I used the Hi-Lift bumper mounts to keep it secure. I also tilted it forward so that I can still open the hood without moving the jack. It is easy to get to and out of the way.

What are you using the domino for? I'm a high end finish trim carpenter and have many festools, simply the test tools made! (the rail saw is the best) I like how you use the table saw, I use the same trick to make large crown molding.

I was wondering if someone would recognize that thing. I used the domino to cut the slots that the hose clamps go through. I cut them at a 45 degree angle on either side of the concave. The domino walked right through the aluminum.
I agree with you, I think Festool is great. I've almost completely switched over to there whole system.
Cheers,
John

Warning: the Aluminess spare plate requires the tire to be touching the swing arm solidly at two points in addition to the rim on the plate. Unless your spare is tightened down on the jack you might have cracking in the plate arms... they're made to use the whole arm for support.

Re: Hi Lift jack and mounting
i dont think you read my quoted statement, ive had 5 VW syncros where i was forced to put the spare on the back, i am looking forward to NOT doing that again and using the space for something more usable everyday (for me), spare is staying where it was designed to go unless im going around the world and need to take 2. but thanks for the concern and you are correct for anyone going tradition ways. i already talked to aluminess about making me a swing sans tire mount (i got this one used)
spare on the back also requires that i extend my moto mount, which i am not willing to do since its already cantilevered enough as it is IMHO.
