Re: Just found this in my local CL

Yes, they got 20+mpg. They only put out about 175hp, and diesels have a fairly rigid fuel curve as it relates to horsepower. If you look at the Banks web site, they quote 22mpg for stock naturally aspirated, 24+mpg with turbo for a 1 ton dually with a 7.3 IDI.

Re: Just found this in my local CL

not to hijack this into an IDI thread, but...

I'd say that modern fuel has dropped the economy of the IDI engines 2-4 mpg in recent times. Also, I don't think that it is unrealistic for a lighter weight pickup with 3.55 gears and a 5-speed manual to be seeing high teens and low 20's, but I'd think it would be a bit more difficult in a van with an automatic and the aerodynamics of a bread box.

Don't get me wrong, if I could be getting an average of even 16 you all would be the first to know of it! To be fair, I need to get my injectors replaced and get my timing dialed in to realize the full potential, but my van and this one are still both in the 7000-8000# range pushing oversize tires - not a recipe for 20+ mpg.

webbmac - if you have any tips and tricks on the IDI's, I'm all ears. I purchased my van hoping to see a consistent 15+, but have seen that only twice and am averaging between 12.5-13 right now. I think that your D-max rig is about as close to the holy grail as we'll get. Out of curiosity, what are you seeing for economy on that rig - 18+?

Re: Just found this in my local CL

Rockbender, I hear you. Banks wrote that the test was done on a dually with 4.10. I guess figure 4x4 might drop a mpg or two, maybe they did the test with a manual trans?. Not sure what else I am missing. I have a buddy with a '91 F250 who gets crazy mileage, albeit with a stick, too. I would not have thought that a van would be all that different but obviously your real-life says so.

Regarding the Duramax, I don't get great mileage, in the 15mpg range combined. Long trips I can get 16+ if I feather it. One of the knocks on DMaxes has been economy, although I seem have gotten better mileage in it than in my Ford 6.0.

Well, all of this reasoned above, i would be happy, if someone would send me a check, to go deal with this guy, negotiate a straight sale, and drive it straight to you, ummm, more or less.

Re: Just found this in my local CL

Maybe you've been distracted by all the ... best we can tell, dude wants you to bring him a "99-03" F250. Your (my, our) cash is worthless in this deal

That said, this listing is one of the funniest I've seen. I'd love to know how it all works out, like a TLC series... "Most F&cked-Up Car Ads Ever"

Re: Just found this in my local CL

Really he's doing it wrong. Here is how to sell that van:

1. download somebody's sweet F250 from another state

2. Post CL ad for said F250:
This truck is worth $12,000+ but I will ONLY trade for a blue 1980s van with 4x4. If you can buy and bring me a 1980s E350 with 4x4 and a sink, I will straight trade you this truck.

3. Post separate CL ad for the van you want to sell.
