2WD Tire recommendations
My original tires were factory Hancook Dynapro, 245/75R16. About a week ago I got a blowout on the highway (driver side rear) where the belts on the tire gave out along the sidewall/tread junction.
Although I didn't experience a lack of control, the tires' steel belts did cause some damage (bad scratches) to my van before I could get safely off the road.
Today, I upgraded all 4 tires (I was just shy of 50k on the odometer anyway) to Michelin LTX M/S. From all the online reviews I've read, these are great tires, plus I had them in the 16.5" size on my last van and I had no complaints, other than their steep price ($160 each.)
I was glad I did the upgrade because when the tire guy changed them, he showed my how another tire was getting ready to fail. It was a little out of round and was contributing to my drive line vibration, which started about 1,500 miles ago and which we couldn't find a reason for (the tires were even rotated and balanced at that time.)
I took pictures of the failed Hankook tire with my cell phone and as soon as I figure out how to get them out of the phone, I'll include links here.
My next task is to go to a body shop and see if the scratches are all the way the way through the paint or if it will be a simple repair (HA! Never is!)
