Hi all... have a buddy looking at a used 6L diesel van with 99k on it and the shop inspection he got came back with this statement...
"HPOP internal leak causing long crank"
Curious if this is something to be slightly or very worried about. Also, no preventative steps have been taken like EGR or Blue Spring or coolant flush/replacement. Oil cooler looks to be original too. Rest of van seems to be a good RB50 listed for $85k.

Yes. It shouldn't really be driven until the HPOP is fixed. The HPOP doesn't crack on its own. It cracked because the HPOP sump screen (under the intake basically) plugs with debris then blows out, sending debris into the HPOP. Proper fix is is a new HPOP + injectors. And might as well upgrade the EGR cooler and rebuild the turbo, upgraded standpipes etc while you have it all apart.
Thanks for that info. I also spoke to my mechanic who basically said the same thing. I'm gonna tell him to get about 10K off the price or pass on it. Maybe even more as it's kind of overpriced for what it is now. Owner had the opinion that if it wasn't broke, don't fix it. Me... I had my EGR deleted right away along with coolant filter installed. Just to make it last longer without issues.
