Re: V10 fuel question
I would like to add to the starter relay issue... Under normal driving conditions the relays do have problems. Most vans never have one fail. But, there is certainly a correlation to towing, and going through starter relays. I'm guessing its related to heat-soak, after running the engine hard. My dad's van has never had an issue, but it usually down't tow more than ~6,000 pounds, while I'm pulling 15,000+ regularly.
Crown Vic cop cars are also plagued with short starter-relay life, while civilian Crown Vics don't have the same issue.

Re: V10 fuel question
I did find a new issue last night. Oil in my coolant reservoir. My engine oil cooler failed, just shy of 322,000 miles. Good news: The cooler took about 5-min to swap. The bad: It retails for $190 (Luckily i didn't pay that much), and flushing the cooling systems takes a lot of time.

Re: V10 fuel question
Engine oil cooler? Where is that? I didn't know I had one, I just thought I had a transmission fluid external cooler.

The engine oil cooler is sandwiched between the oil filter and the block. It get its coolant from a double-tee arrangement built into the lower radiator hose. It's a stacked-plate oil-to-water exchanger like the diesels have (different shape and location however) so it works pretty good.

Re: V10 fuel question
I should add that the root cause of the engine oil cooler failure was a bad PCV valve (I left it in way too long). The new cooler started leaking after a couple more oil changes, but I didn't notice until it filled the coolant reservoir completely, over pressuring everything and causing the heater hose to blow out, and the PCV valve to launch itself out of the valve cover at the same time. It made a mess. That was about 30,000 miles ago and everything is good now.

Re: V10 fuel question
How often should the PCV valve be replaced?

Re: V10 fuel question
Every 100,000 or whenever you do spark plugs. I left mine a little more than twice as long as a should have.
