Just want to celebrate. Starcool works!

So the seller that sold me the camper said Starcool didn't work. And when I first tested it, he was right. I read the manual that said with Starcool the van needed a 45a converter, I just swapped over to a LiFePo4 compatible converter and tested it, cleaned up the terminals on the fuse box, threw new fuses in and tested. On low speed, hardly anything, medium, starts blowing cool, but wait, there's more, on high, it blows icicles.

Futz with the thermostat, and yep, seems the T stat needs to be replaced, but aside from that, and it does work it is just funky, going down through the speeds, cold, cold with less air, cold with less air, off, back up and cold cold cold with varying amounts of air going through...

Only thing wrong with it was the lead acid deep cycle batteries the seller had in here were garbage, and the fuse block terminals were 30 years or crusty...

All in all, it is ready to go.

This a "dream come true" for you - as replacing one - let alone finding a compatible compressor or other parts - not gonna happen ! Happy for you !

It was either get this thing working, or rip it out and go with one of those Chinese 12v heat pumps... But even those that would properly fit are unobtainium.

When I got the Starcool on my 98 van working, it would freeze the fan out (on 12vdc) on the lowest setting. Pretty impressive, actually. On 110vac it wasn't quite as good (it does lower btus on AC), but still worked ok.

Mine works, just wish I could get the refrigerant to stay in it...
