Microwave
I bought a GTRV RB 50 needing the interior fixed up and I need a new built-in microwave. Opening is 19"x 11". Does anyone have a brand/model to recommend?

Re: Microwave
It's going to be driven by the wattage of your inverter........and the amp-hr capacity of your house batteries.
how many watts is your inverter? What do you have for house batteries?

Re: Microwave
I don't think it will be used unless it is hooked up to shore power. The van has a converter a looks like two interstate lead acid house batteries. I have not pulled the batteries out to see their amperage yet.

Lets say you're talking about 1000W microwave. 1000W/12V = 83.33Amps (Serious amount of current). Doable, but just needs special attention.
Here's a lower power 12V microwave.

When you are running the 1000W microwave with an inverter it is at last 83.33 amps.......
Let's say your inverter is 90% efficient........the amperage from the batteries is 83.33/.9=92.58 amps

Re: Microwave
Should also note a 1000w MW draws something like 1350 to 1500 watts to produce 1000w of cooking power. So amps are even higher.
Just checked our kitchen MW which is 1100w. Power draw is listed at 1650 watts!!

I suspect that the key specifications that he is looking for is something that fits into the 19" X 11" space. This really puts you down to a .7 to .9 cubic foot microwave. Many of the .9 are right at the 19" x 11" space. This one looks like it may just fit in http://www.amazon.com/dp/B003YKS1NQ/..._t3_B003VV7CYC.

Re: Microwave
good point Ray.....that reflects the efficiency of the microwave. I'm limited to a 700W unit in the van since I have a 1000W inverter. The input power to the microwave is just about 1000W to make 700W of heating power.

One thing to consider (don't ask me how I know this!), is how the microwave door opens, ie where the hinge is. Closed it may fit snuggly in a 19"x11" opening, but may need more width when the door is open.
