Not to hi-jack the thread but I wish I could switch my belt warning over to the passenger side. I use my seat belt but have a hard time convincing the passenger to buckle up. Personally I don’t need to be pulled over and I’m tired of threatening the rider. Is there anyway to get the alarm to chime when the passenger seat is not buckled?

Keep an airhorn next to the driver seat?

I was thinking of a baseball bat. Their head would chime.

Re: Seat Belt Buzzer

Found this old thread and decided to look over the factory owners manual to see if my van had this function.
Yes it does and it is now disabled.
Seatbelts are very important and should be used, but there are those times.

Re: Seat Belt Buzzer

On our van, if you start the engine, fasten the seat belt, wait a few seconds and then unhook it, the alarm will not sound. The alarm remains inactive until the engine is turned off and then restarted.

Ford may have made the computer smarter since '02 so your mileage may vary.

I always use the belts on the road but on a 5mph bumpy 2-track it's just a PITA.

Another seat belt trick I use is to put a small spring loaded gluing clamp on the shoulder strap at the top of the retracter after pulling out a little slack. That way you get most of the safety value of the shoulder strap without being ratcheted back in the seat.

Re: Seat Belt Buzzer

Just don’t forget these are “Active Restraints” so don’t interfere with the buckle side in case the charge goes off and pulls the belt in about 3 to 5 inches.

Funny you should mention that.

I just bought some used 2011 seats yesterday and both pyrotechnic belts buckles were blown.

I took pictures of the old and new ones when I replaced them, its quite a difference.

If anyone wants to see them let me know if not I will post them up someday like all the other things I think I am going to post.

Re: Seat Belt Buzzer

I thought the seat belt retracter was just a mechanical inertial lock; the same device that grabs the belt when you jerk it out fast or try to put it on while driving on a bumpy road.

When did they start putting this active pre-tensioning system in vehicles?

This is all just another example of The Man having too much control over our free choice! Just saying....
