Re: Thetford Curve not flushing

I had the same issue last summer with an in-warranty Curve. Thetford shipped me a new one no questions asked. I called their 800 number, and they walked me through the diagnosis- same corrugated tube split. They said that it was unrepairable, so sent me an entire new unit.

Re: Thetford Curve not flushing

I have a Curve but haven't used it much. No problems yet. Sounds like maybe a preemptive addition of a hose clamp to that tube might be in order.

Re: Thetford Curve not flushing

I am about to order a curve.
Does anyone see a reason why NOT to add a hose clamp before we use it?
Is there some compelling reason why this isn't a fix from the factory?

Re: Thetford Curve not flushing

I must admit that when I read the title I thought to myself "well that's a sh!++y problem to have!"

Awesome that you documented the fix, Larrie. Well done!

Re: Thetford Curve not flushing

As chief engineer aboard passenger vessels,I have had plenty of experience with toilets, and have yet to find one that didn't have some sort of design problem. My personal boat has a Tecma ($1200!) from Theatford that had an issue that caused it to stop flushing at least twice a year. Fixing it was a messy, time consuming project. I called the US factory and explained how to eliminate the issue, but they insisted they had never heard of it, and I was the only one to complain. Fast forward four years and I found out I could get a redesigned part from Italy that incorporated a proper fix. Theatford in the US again had never heard of the part, and I ended up importing it. If someone could invent a simple, reliable toilet I think there is a huge market. (meanwhile, a bucket will never clog or refuse to flush) Then all I would want is a toaster that works. Glad you found the issue though, a new hose should be pretty simple to install.........

If I did not have a Curve I would still order one. We like it a lot. Adding a hose clamp might be a good preventative measure.

Re: Thetford Curve not flushing

Thanks for the reply.
I am just going to order it and then look forward to cleaning it for my wife and daughter.
Funny how much time one can spend researching a port-a-potty.

Re: Thetford Curve not flushing

Will the Curve fit in the standard SMB Porta Potti cabinet?

Re: Thetford Curve not flushing

The Curve is 17-5/8 h by 17-3/4 d by 15-1/4 wide, http://thetford.com/product/porta-potti-curve/. Not sure what you layout is but I put mine in one of the closets and pull it out when needed.
