Window coverings

I recently made some window covers for my van windows. I suppose others have done it this way, but this is what I came up with. I first made cardboard patterns for each window, marking out a slot for the ones with window latches.

Next, I cut out insulation and added 1-1/4 inches on the strait areas to fold into the window area for mounting.

After that I made some covers that matched the additional 1-1/4 all around the window. I left a pocket on the top to slide the insulation into.

Once in I sewed the top, placed the cardboard pattern over the window cover and traced out the original outline of the window. I sewed around that line to create a lip that would fold over to use as a mounting surface.

At this point I added some snaps to the folding area and installed the other part of the snap into the plastic of the van body trim.

This was a pretty easy way to get window coverings on my van without too much money into the thing. Hopefully it will help with the hot and cold as well as provide some privacy.

any chance you can make me some, lol I tried to make my own with three layers of reflectix, covered in vinyl with magnets, unfortunately the glue adhesive I used has become a sticky mess and they dont work great.

Is there anyone out there that will make some nice shades for the rear econoline windows, at this point i will pay anything.

I used this guy. Great quality product insulated with magnets to attach to frame but pricey($299 for rear window covers) . Back then I had 2 kids under 3 & had no time to make my own so bought based on positive reviews I found on this forum.

It was really pretty easy to do. Someone had given my wife a sewing machine and I had never sewed anything before. I imagine it would be easy to find a used one for cheap. I don't think that I can make them good enough to sell though. Besides it's really not my thing, just didn't see any other way of getting them for the amount of money I was willing to spend on them.
