F250 7.3 Diesel Questions
Welcome.....There’s no real routine maintenance items on the 7.3 other than oil changes. That being said, you’ll probably want to find a good diesel mechanic to plug in and read any codes present and maybe do a buzz test on the injectors and see if there’s any issues and check sensors. Go through and at least check if not change all fluids to get a baseline if you haven’t-oil, brake, diffs, trans, coolant.
Other common wear parts that begin to fail are the HPOP(high pressure oil pump).
Check the exhaust up pipes for any signs of leaking, another common point of failure and will cause low boost or poor performance, you’ll notice black streaks on areas around the flange, lots of diesel performance sites offer far superior bellowed up pipes, Dorman makes a decent economy copy.
Make sure the batteries are fresh and ground cables are clean and secured.
There’s really only a few viable upgrade options out there for the vans with the 7.3 that are worthwhile. There’s no performance intake available, but you can do a 4” exhaust. And hands down the best performance chip available for the 7.3 is the Hydra from Power Hungry Performance, wouldn’t recommend going with anything over their 60hp tune, not needed and the 40 and/or 60 will be everything you’ll need to really wake it up!
Get a scanguage or at least an EGT temp probe to keep an eye on exhaust temps.
Whatever you do, DON’T put in a DP tuner....complete garbage!
