That sounds so social-media of you.

I'm mostly into anti-social media, except for the fine folks here who were mostly #vanlifing before it was cool.

Oddly enough I've never on purpose spent a night in a van but that's another story however I'll voice an opinion about "social media" that's all my own.

We could consider specialized bulletin boards like this "social media" by the broadest of interpretations of that whole thing however great forums like this are far, far, far removed from "facebook", Twitter and the rest of those unmoderated and wide-open sites where most anyone can (and do) post anything relevant or not to a topic or discussion. Over 2020 we've seen how letting the masses "run wild" has worked against establishing or maintaining even a small bit of decorum and unoffensive virtual conversations.

I've never been any sort of participant on "facebook", have spent many hours here and on FTE which is the extent of my "social media" presence. I don't feel my life has been the least bit negatively affected but being here and on FTE I've learned so much about topics of high interest to me. Having learned so much already and come to enjoy interacting with people here (most on FTE too ) and I'm not the least bit apologetic for being a rather long-time contributor of both sites.

Its easy to see the "quick buck" people come and soon leave when they realize this site tends to police itself and call someone out if they're not trustworthy. That we "got your back" in a way is absolutely one of the more gratifying aspects of SMB---IOW I'm glad I'm here.

So anyway before I yell out "I love ya Bro......." completely sober thanks to all who have made, are now making and will no doubt continue into the future regardless how "van life" plays out going forward--its a pleasure keeping company here!

We're a couple of old farts, me also former USMC from a bygone era. Not to harp on this topic but having always enjoyed real time and real life conversations, dabbled in the virtual stuff as well its great falling back on our tried and tested ways----we survived and thrived long before the 'net became so pervasive---or is that "invasive"?

Most who've contacted me via PM where I might be helpful are offered my phone number as I believe I fare better by actually speaking to someone. Ahh I also DON'T "text" which is funny because that tends to mightily confuse more than a few. Yeah I'm old and have earned my right to be a codger I think?

Yep. Get off my lawn. Funny, I finally get why old men are like that.

I text, but it sure ain't my preferred method of communicating. And trying to problem solve one sentence at a time is a sure way to extend the effort.

One great thing about this forum is actually meeting people. I mean meeting in person, not an online "friend".

Last off topic comment from me.

And I did not watch the video. No need.

The threshold of "OLD" is only passed when you've come to miss the return confirmation of that "click, click, click" sound which mimicked the number you selected on the rotary phones...gracing you with those few precious seconds in which you reevaluated how you'd approach the pending conversation.

Yep, good stuff. I have also never been active on Facebook, though I must admit that I have an account. I signed up when it was brand new, never ever used it until Craigslist became a den of thieves a year or so ago. If you want to buy or sell anything used, FB Marketplace is the place. It is much like Ebay or CL in the early days. I recommend to any gearhead or hobby junkie like myself to check out Marketplace, which you need an account for unfortunately.

That said, I recently asked my 18 year old if he was on Facebook. He informed me that FB is for 'older people like you, Dad'. I was kind of taken aback. Not surprised that I'm out of style, I'm used to that. I am surprised at how fast things move. He said no FB for him or his friends, all Snapchat and probably whatever other new platform hit the scene this week.
