Broken leaf spring - replacement
I broke the "upper" leaf spring on my 2001 E350. It is a 4x4, but I believe this part would have been stock. Dealer says it only comes complete. That doesn't seem to make sense to me. Any ideas how to get a replacement without buying a complete leaf spring assembly?[photo] [/photo]

Re: Broken leaf spring - replacement
When I needed additional leaves in my rear spring pack the local blacksmith made them up.

Re: Broken leaf spring - replacement
That does not look like any E350 rear spring I've seen before. I thought they all have 3" wide uniform leaf packs.

Re: Broken leaf spring - replacement
Is that from the front? Who did the 4X4 conversion? I agree, doesn't look like any rear I've seen either, especially with that taper, it might be possible to get a single leaf replacement made from a local shop, but if it were me, seeing as how 1 already broke, I would consider getting 2 new leaf packs from Deaver or a local place that knows what they're doing: measurements, height, weight of the rig.....
Give us some more info on your rig and conversion, maybe we can help ID the source.

Re: Broken leaf spring - replacement
I had a spring shop add a leaf to the rear springs on our 2001 SMB. I used Betts Truck Parks and Service:
http://www.bettstruckparts.com
They have several locations...

Re: Broken leaf spring - replacement
That looks like an aftermarket overload spring, not a Ford factory spring.
I have no idea where to find on like it.
Maybe you could replace them (both sides) with air bags.

Re: Broken leaf spring - replacement
Here is a photo of the other side with the intact spring mounted. It is on top of the leaf pack.
The photo came out upside down.
Maybe I can just take the one off of this side, and it will be fine?

Probably it will be fine. You may find it sits a little low in the back without these, maybe not. My van sits a little low in the back, never really cared about it.

Re: Broken leaf spring - replacement
Yes that looks to be just an aftermarket added helper spring to combat the sag. Ultimately, like I said, if you want to remedy the problem long term, if it bothers you, new leaf packs that eliminate the need for the lift block. Most likely you have a quigley 4X4? They reuse the original leaf springs and perch them on blocks, original springs are not really designed for the added weight and handling any off-road duty. Many of us, including myself have gone with deaver springs with positive results.
