DIY Awning Idea

I've had these Coolaroo roll-up outdoor sunshades at my house for years. They're high quality and inexpensive.

I was wondering if anyone has tried using them as a DIY awning. They're sold as sunshades, but replacing the fabric with something waterproof would be a simple task.

Here is a "beach tent" I got from REI. Stretchy nylon fabric...There are two sizes..I got the bigger one ($125.00) small one is around $90. It has stretch chords on four corners with bags for rocks/sand. I tie to d-mirror and back well well on one side, other side to a dog leash screw into ground job/thing...Can also tie to my Thule racks on top and shade penthouse windows...foldable stands, tent, fits in a small bag
