EGR Delete
I have a 6.0 EGR delete and sold it. It is going to California. It won't pass smog because if throws the chk engine light on an off. Has anyone used the SCT Tuner to permanently delete the check engine lite with that code? My state they don't chk it. Thanks

I did on my 05 when I had it. Custom tune, no CEL, no problem.

You can't buy an SCT Tuner anymore with a canned tune that turns off the EGR valve or takes care of the check engine light. You need a custom tune written to do it. And be careful if you have an existing tuner and upgrade the software.
It's a good idea to leave the EGR valve connected. The PCM is looking for it even if it's not opening and closing to control proper cooling fan function.

My recent CA SMOG check experiences have been with techs that took their job surprisingly seriously, especially on the van. I had one check all my evap lines, and after nearly 30 minutes, comment that while they weren't in the stock location, I had in fact manage to connect them all correctly.
I'd fully put an EGR delete back before going to an unknown CA SMOG test. That seems like the sort of thing they would explicitly look for.

I have a Honda with the wrong engine in it. Very similar, same emissions, but wrong block number. My strategy has always been to go to the shadiest-looking gas station smog check place I can find on the theory they won't care enough to check. So far so good.

Heh, haven't run into that here so far. The first time I had it tested, it just *barely* missed, so the guy tried three more times to see if it'd squeak through. When it didn't, he told me the catalytic converter was worn out. I put a new one in and it passed easily. After 300,000 miles I find it entirely believable that the old cat was tired.

Ok I have a 7.3 and no cat but the guys still asked why he can’t see the egr and this year he tried to tell me my transflo was wrong. I said really it’s 20 rears old how do you know that. He shut up.
