Here is an outside pic. I can shoot one of the inside but if you use the search and enter louvers you should get some good links.
Indeed. I had a few links bookmarked while researching louvers but then dropped it as a project last month when an EGR delete/oil cooler job reared it's ugly head. Daveb's rig is the poster child http://www.hoodlouvers.com/e350-sportsmobile/

But I don't beleive in chipping or increasing boost as this puts more strain/pressure on the engine, creating excessive heat. Accelerate with modest cation.

Many of these guys use Scan Gauges to monitor engine, diff, radiator, transmission, which is a good thing.

The bonnet air vents is one of the first things I'll get done on arrival in US.

Cheers.
Actually it's Tapatio that installed a stock Ford lower directional air dam. I think that louvers help allow more air flow to be pulled through the radiator. It also seems like with a better exhaust route it helps to keep the air flow from backing up against the radiator at high speeds. The air dam would force more air pressure at higher speeds into the engine bay but the louvers let the fan pull more air through at slow speeds...er, I think. Chris at Ujoint has installed several louvers and probably knows more about them than me for sure.
I am a bit worried about the HP upgrade the tuner puts out but so far the engine temps have stayed put. Guess I'll have to wait until the 100*+ temps roll in.

Back on topic, I do think a good set of gauges would be worth installing before a long trip especially transmission water and EGT temp modes. The Scan Gauge I have is nice but my analog gauges are much more accurate at least as far as water temps go. I still think the Scan gauge is a great tool worth purchasing. I guess you can also bank 2 Scan Gauge units together for 8 modes to monitor. I plan to do that as well.

You had your 6.0 studded, right? If so, drive it like you stole it

The scanguage or similar monitor is probably the most important to do right off the bat. That, and as carringb suggested, a coolant filter. I have the one from Dieselsite but the IPR is considered the best. Mishimoto is also coming out with one.

The thing that I've encountered is not knowing what the trouble codes mean when one pops up on the scanguage. Easy enough to google if you have internet but a list of common codes would be a good thing to have when you go on a trip. Especially if you don't have internet service.

Yes. This.

There's a list of codes in the "6.0 coffee table book" that only takes a few pages to print. I carry it. Sorry, but I don't have a link. I use a .pdf of the book but I can't remember where I got it...

Thanks for the download. I had a paper version I hauled around I got from the shop at work but I'll just download the PDF.

Re: Preventive measures on the 6.0 PSD before a long trip

About getting more hot air out of the engine compartment, someone on the forum said they took the rubber gasket off that goes between the cowel and the top of the hood. They calculated how many square inches of free space they got, don't know if it works or not though.

Re: Preventive measures on the 6.0 PSD before a long trip

But I thought there was an issue of hot air being sucked in by the A/C. Not sure what effect that has on the A/C's temp but I'd want to make sure it's not compromised.

Re: Preventive measures on the 6.0 PSD before a long trip

daveb, what size louvers did you end up getting. I presume they are either 11x17" or the high-flow 10x19" version. I think I'm going to do this. Not sure about the side louvers. They certainly look cool.
