Rear door tire carrier?

Anybody have experience with this style?

It bolt directly to the door but I don't see how you could fit a fender washer on the inside edge of the lip you drill through.

I've seen those in use, but you probably need a relatively small and light spare by today's standard for it to work without calamity. I think the fender washers were to go behind the body panel in the door, not the hinge, since that's what the answer referred to. The one I saw mounted on the hinge itself didn't have a fender washer (you wouldn't need one I would think).

The door is done out of sheet metal. In general 0.7mm thin! Whatever you bold through this, will not hold.

Maybe if bolded through ghe hinges.

That's similar to the custom SMB one that they put on a lot of vans. Probably not as strong, but similar design. The SMB one also bolts to the door, but does so at the edges where it's strongest.

Best picture is from gcvt recently:

That thing is crap! Stay away! If you can weld at all you can get square tubing and make the old SMB type Rally mentioned above. It' s just a simple A-frame, only about 5 welds, but it bolts through the 3/8" or so door hinges as well as the sheet metal on the hinge side, and like Rally said on the pinched thicker part of the door on the pointed side. I used a 6"x1" flat steel plate inside my door on mine.

Here's what mine looks like from SMB. I can tell you, it is sturdy as a rock. It'd be pretty easy to make one.

I'm thinking I'll build my own. I like the Aluminus one but $695 seems way high for $50 worth of aluminum welded up.

Not sure. Like Robb said, I don't think they make them anymore - don't see it on their website. Looks like they're just selling the Aluminess one now.
