Sportsmobile Penthouse Failure - HELPPPP

Hey everyone, Been lurking here for a while and now have the first opportunity to post my issue.

I was doing something stupid and moving the van without latching down the top entirely. Hit a couple of bumps and guess it was just enough to break a bolt and BOOM!!!!..

My whole top shifted over to the driver's side and lost the tension of the spring on the driver's side. I understand this is a pretty big deal, and I'm sick of being so stupid and ruining my prize van.

I am in Carbondale, Colorado, and I am wondering if anyone in the area could know how having a shop or having completed a field repair for this before. I would be okay driving somewhere else to try and get this fixed up

Any input would be constructive.

Thanks, Ben

Garage
Its pretty far from Carbondale,
but Rocky Mountain Marine and RV in Albuquerque
fixed our pop top about 1 1/2 years ago.
They were the only place in NM we could find that would even look at it.
They worked directly with Sportsmobile to figure out what need to be done.
Good Luck.

The video in the first post in this thread will show you what is involved in replacing the bolt.

You sound like you don't want to try to fix it yourself. If you do there are a number of posts and the video.

Here is a string about shoulder bolts, but I describe briefly how to fix your issue without a come along or other special tools. Just using a grade 8 bolt, strong (1/4" dacron line") and a couple of people with some 2X2's..

It is very do-able.

Cheers
