Stuck in Redding, CA
I am dead in Redding, CA. The van was sputtering the last few miles yesterday. This morning the van had a rough start and when I give it gas the thing dies. I have a P0217 code and on my scan gauge it shows the voltage only at 12.7. Anyone know of a good shop in the Redding area.

Can’t help with where to take it, but Had the same situation three weeks ago (EGT’s went up and just prior also had three occasions where I had turbo “bark”) - they checked some exhaust sensor, checked for an exhaust leak, but turned out to be the Turbo veins - ended out replacing the turbo (but also had them replace the sensor for good measure).

Sorry you're having troubles on the road!!!
Based on symptoms, it's possibly a bad injector bank (which, if a whole bank, is caused by a bad FICM), but more is just as likely to be caused by a chaffed wire in engine harness. It'll take some good diagnostics for sure.
How hard did you push it after it started sputtering? Death by injector over-fuelling is something I've gotten to witness twice, and it only takes about 10 miles. Is the coolant level still normal? Any milkshake in your oil? Regardless of final diagnosis, it would be prudent to do a compression test. Even now under it's current state, the shop can cut the fuel and do a "relative compression test" aka "cranking cylinder contribution test".

I only drove few miles after the sputter. Coolant level seams ok. Bulletproof FIMC should be good it only has 1 year and 15,0000 miles on it.
Thanks

Ok. Glad you hear you didn't keep pushing things.
the 12.7 volts, is that your battery level off? Or was that the last you saw while driving?

I started the van this morning and the voltage on the scan gauge fluctuates between 13.1 and 12.1 and sits at 12.7 most of the time.

That is a little erratic, but that might not mean much, since you can't maintain a steady idle. Chicken and egg thing in this case... Do you have a switch to parallel your house batteries? Are they fully charged? If yes, and you connect them, a sudden improvement in idling would point towards it being an alternator problem. But it's a long shot, because you'd probably have lower voltage if it went out before the symptoms.
