I use Powertrax(similar) in the back for my FJ80 and it's been great on most surfaces. I would think a LSD like automatic locker should be ok on ice too?
True Locker on ice = accident but how about something that gives traction where there is traction and not to where there is no traction?

Re: Anybody use a lock right locker

From everything I have read, a TrueTrac/Torsen type diff locker is fine on snow and ice.

Re: Anybody use a lock right locker

No snow yet but, after living for a couple of thousand miles with the TrueTrac so far, I love it.

Re: Anybody use a lock right locker

The problem with a locker on ice, or LSD even, is if both tires are spinning you have no lateral stability. I'm talking NONE. When the rear goes sideways on a snow-packed/icy side street in your parents neighborhood JUST from the slope they put in for rainwater that is bad. It may seem like it would be better to spin both when just one is spinning and the other is sitting like a dead duck, but- that's what is keeping you from going sideways.

Ditto the front, although it's not as much of an issue, I actually have had my XJ go perfectly sideways when spinning all four trying to go up some hills and across other (sidehilling in the snow is a bad idea with lockers...)
