Re: New Shoes?
I think Jage is moving up to 17" rims and these are temporary rims/times to keep his rig rolling while he get his new ones.

Re: New Shoes?
So Jage, are you dropping out of the MT's and going toward a AT type tire? I thought you had the Open Country Toyo MT's.
What seems strange is the Nitto Trail Grapplers are getting much higher rating for a MT & road tire compared to others. The problem is I can't find them. I'd like to hear from owners who have used them.
I also was told the Cooper MT were a really good tire by some owner that have used them but the reviews are not as good as the Toyo.

Re: New Shoes?
I don't know much about which tire is best, but Jage's new wheel covers freakin' ROCK

Re: New Shoes?
Well I just took the plunge and went for the 285-75-16 toyo open country MT's. Last week they quoted me 1336.59 from Les Schwab. They were on sale in April but went off this month plus there was a 10% jump on all tires. Lucky that the guy said he could give them to me at last months price. I stuck with the 285's because they claim the weight capacity is higher and they should wear longer on my particular rims. At that price I went ahead and purchased 2 spares which will rotate into the van then finally to the trailer tires one of these days. Total OTD $2003.32. I don't know if I'm happy or not but at least she'll look better and I'll feel better on the trail.

Re: New Shoes?
very first "virgin" post/reply!
have a 2010, new to me smb with Nitto Terra Grapplers, 295/70/18.
seem very good on the road and in rain.
don't look as aggressive as bfg at's (which I like)
in my mind, you should be able to go anywhere a smb will go on either of the AT's.

Re: New Shoes?
My wife's reaction:
[youtube:itmmjvbr]
So there is a project I need to redo.
Discount Tire hooked me up with 100% locking lug nuts, for which I also got a spare key (visions of dropping the key in a mud hole under a blown tire or having it crack 300 miles from anywhere led me to that request) and as always took care of things. They also upgraded the valve stems for free when it turned out the "common" high pressure stems barely filled the stem holes.
They ride stiff, but that might be too much air, as I could feel every crack in the road. It wasn't bad thanks to the Deavers, but I'm hoping that a weight adjusted air pressure will smooth that out some. Overall I really like the look in person, in photos is looks like a bit much with the chrome center caps.
My wife is happy and that's what's important (plus she LET ME get new wheels and tires! )

Re: New Shoes?
Ya so what happened to your old rims? You had Mohave Teflon, right? I just bought 2 black steels for the new trailer cause the mojave is backordered. I need just two 16" 8X6.5
Let me know if you still have them and the right size, and you're willing to part with just 2.

Eleven years later and I'm swapping the 11 year old Nitto's with Hankook AT2 Extreme 315/70/17. Just ordered today. It's great they lasted so long but the girl who told me they were beyond Discount Tires policy age could not have been 11 herself when I bought them. Time is scary. Will update in a week or two as of course they have to be special ordered.
