Can certainly relate to your mud cleaning debacle ... after a trek through Vermont two years ago we departed a muddy backroad with so much mud caked underneath it took $36.00 worth of quarters deposited in a small town "quick wash" to get it all off - the high pressure sure helped the process, but left me soaked and filthy. Must have been the type of mud because I've never had that much accumulate before.
Fortunately, we always travel with 4 rolls of quarters & $50 cash stored in a bag for the unexpected Toll roads we encounter periodically - came in handy for this purpose.
