Re: Central Ca October 2009 Meet.
Bowing out, sorry.
I see me and my Sprinter are still on the A-list. We will, however, NOT be attending. Take lots of pix, and post them often! Have a great trip, I will be thinking about all I am missing.

Re: Central Ca October 2009 Meet.
Bill,
On page 3 of this thread is driving directions to the campground. It should be easy to find without a GPS. Myself, I go by paper maps (thank you AAA).
I was just looking at those directions, and something seemed wrong. And it was.
I've corrected the post, but anyone following my directions should turn left on FS5, not the right I originally posted.

This link, http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UT...,2.072296&z=10 is great. Get directions from your house and it will show you street level photos of all the intersections to within the last few miles.
Regards,
Keith

Re: Central Ca October 2009 Meet.
Dave
If we are still planing the day trip to bald mountain on Friday we may meet you on dinkey creek rd somewhere on Friday. We will be getting up to the area around dark and I don't see any reason to go all the way up to sample Thur night only to go all the way back to dinkey the next day. I was thinking of staying at summit meadow camp or boondocking. Its been ten years since I have been up there so I don't remember the area. Any Thoughts?

Here are some FYI's.
I did talk to the people at Dinkey Creek Campground ($23 per night). The CC will have two loops open through the end of the October. Its about 2,000 feet lower in elevation. There looked to be many boondocking locations around Dinkey Meadows, but then again there were a lot of no-camping signs as well.
If there are no visible landmarks (traveling at night or in fog), once you climb out of Huntington Lake, the turnoff to Sample Meadows from Kaiser Pass Road is about 2 miles after (East of) Kaiser Peak Pass, so you are going downhill when you reach the turnoff.
If anyone has a Kenwood/Garmin GPS and would like a digital topo map that you can overlay into your onboard GPS, bring an SD card with you and I'll give you a copy.
