Having gone through the Conejos river and Platoro area in June I can attest to the nasty washboard on the road to Platoro. Elwood pass was nothing but big potholes for the first mile at which point I turned around at the advice of a rig coming from the other direction. He warned me of off camber further on and I did not want to sacrifice my high top Sprinter. A Jeep with a trailer also turned around with me. We took the regular CDT route which comes out at Del Norte. Great easy trail and it’s on this section that the superfund site is located. It’s an ugly mess..

You’re talking about the approach from the south after Stunner Campground, I hope. That’s always had its bad spots and I imagine this summer’s rains haven’t helped.
