I like what you have done -

- bronze bushings on the pivots

- secure, overcenter clamps for latches

I couldn't tell from the picture, but is the passenger side taillight blocked completely?

the passenger side swing arm assembly is mounted in the same relative location as the spare tire assembly. The lights may be harder to see the because of the box though. I have been doing some research on additional lights to install into the bumper for better visibility.

I want a box like that. Nothing to put in it yet but I want it just the same.

Thanks! Hadn't really thought too much about it. The keyboard covers the drink holders so I'll have to move the keyboard regardless. So far that hasn't needed to happen.

As if the rear rack project wasn't enough for one season...

Made a bit more progress. All the tubing is welded up. Top and bottom brackets are welded (bottom not shown in this photo). The big unknown at the moment is the top rain gutter brackets - still toying with a few options.

Nice job. EMT conduit? The zinc residue seems to indicate that. What diameter?

For mounting brackets, you might consider cutting them out of thin wall square tubing. Then you would have a nicely formed corner to fit along the bottom edge of the gutter and up.

yup, 1" EMT. I've done some torch welding on aluminum before, but this was my first attempt at torch welding steel. Using wire coat hangers as my filler rod. So far so good. BTW, this of course is all a test prior to building a roof rack out of 1" EMT. I figured if I can make the ladder happen, I can manage the roof rack as well.

I've looked into the square tubing - I may go that route, thanks. I bought and bent some 3/16" material into the shape I wanted, but am not 100% satisfied with it.

You're a person after my own heart. Well, as long as you limit it to non-critical stuff and don't start fitting a 4x4 conversion with that method.

Love the tire hanger as well. Even the commercial solutions seem to develop some issues with heavy use.
