Re: Shore Power Cable question
Why not just make it easy on yourself and visit your local RV supply place and pick one up? They come ready made in several lengths. Make sure to pick up the adapter that will allow you to plug into 30 amp sockets as well as regular sockets.

Re: Shore Power Cable question
As CharlyB said... Pre made cable is MUCH cheaper than make-it-yourself. (For some reason)
West Marine sells 50ft. 30 Amp cables (part# 9329897), for (sometimes), as little as $49.99; but usually $79.99. Bulk cable and end fittings are about three times that if you make up your own. Go figure. The adaptor from W.M. (part# 203901) is also $79.99.

Re: Shore Power Cable question
is 30 amp enough, i see 50 ampers out there?
i agree w/ ready made
was considering an adaptor and using my existing Heap of extension cords
but a ready made is the deal
now:
30 amp vs 50 amp ??
length, does is matter??
and of course Color !!

Re: Shore Power Cable question
Size of cable depends on how many amps you need to draw in your rig.
Our rig uses 15 amps max so a 12 gauge cord is ample for us. We take two 25 foot cables and that has always been enough to plug us in.....99% of the time one cable is enough.

Re: Shore Power Cable question
I can't imagine you ever needing 50 amp. Plus the cord would put your rig over gross

Re: Shore Power Cable question
The biggest load you have is the roof AC, and it only draws 8 amps at full load. A 15A circuit is all you need. 12Gauge wire.

Re: Shore Power Cable question
Are there any cheaper sources... RV Junkyard maybe? I'll be looking to pick up a second since I always hate putting the one in the bumper right before leaving home...

Re: Shore Power Cable question
The connector SMB installs is a 30A 125V connector. The mating connector is not cheap ~$35 at McMaster-Carr. Otherwise, I'd suggest you buy the connector and mate it to any old extension cord.
