Re: Carputer Anyone?

really impressive capabilities. nice job.

i was addicted to xlobby as a front end for my htpc's. got into xml and other stuff too. you can really do alot. its been awhile since my focus has shifted to other things.

i might have to check out the site and the software. i certainly intend to have a computer in my van as well as internet access. im still fleshing out the details such as laptop/netbook/mini-itx (or pico/nano) and an ISP (probably Verizon 4g with wilson boosters when the come out).

i was initially thinking that i would be happy with internet access, music, dvd and obd2 info on whatever solution i came up with but seeing your post rekindled my interest (and madness) in front ends.

i am curious as to what hardware/relays/switches and such were used to accomplish some of what you did. did x10 come into the picture at all or were all the devices in your build equipped with the ability to communicate via usb/serial?

(these things are of interest since my build is not for camping primarily but a 2 year boondocking adventure - need the entertainment! lol)

Re: Carputer Anyone?

Greg,

I see a business opportunity for you, and a Hobbyist Vendor tag in your future. Nice, nice work! The SRV album and the MFSL albums don't hurt either.

Re: Carputer Anyone?

I'll be over this weekend for some help diagnosing my electrical issues. That will obviously be child's play for you!

Re: Carputer Anyone?

Aldercrest,
I would be happy to help out in anyway I could, Sunday is pretty much race day for me, I get to watch 500 miles of Indy and then follow it up with the Coca Cola 600. But, I would be free Saturday and Monday. Feel free to PM me.

The Digital IO board I used is by Phidgets, I plan to do a write up on it, they are basically tied to your computer via USB. The one I used is actually a Single Board Computer, that is a web server. so I can attach to it with a Cat5 network cable or on my wireless network. I chose this because I can also connect to it on any of my computers on my network. The Phidgets product line comes with very good programing resources. I wrote my apps in C#, but they have a wide range of code samples and libraries.
