Re: Betty #2
Looking good! I would have went that route but could not find a Eurovan Westy anywhere in Alaska.

Re: Betty #2
Yeah I found a Contempo style (we used to call them "Tv Tops") cap. Found one Eurovan and a couple of Vanagan's in yards but all had the two piece top that would not work well. I like mine but would still rather hae one like yous. I really only needed a couple of inches to clear the mirrors on my Dual Sports but ended up with almost 18" more. Without the added lift going under it this summer it is now over 9'! Once I put that on and add 37" tires it will be closer to 10'!

Re: Betty #2
The gray carpet from Lowes looks great and is easy to work with. The carpet is for walls and is about .50 cents a square foot.
BTW the inside looks great!

Re: Betty #2
Haha, I was looking at the second picture trying to figure out what those brackets were and how much of the lowest panels they were supporting, and then of course in the third they're clearly of the duct tape variety.

Thats Funny! I used that as sound damping thats where the roof ribs are. I riveted the ribs to the roof for a little more support.

I was having the same conversation with my friend Tim who worked in a boat yard for a while- he said naugahide over foam rubber on some sort of thin rigid backing to make panels I guess you can use a heavy duty velcro to attach panels (he said they do this in boats all the time) Or lowes has some really inexpensive dense pile dark grey carpet-looks like the automotive type. It looks too thin to put on an office floor, but might look good to trim out the plywood pieces. Can you take the plywood stacks out and wrap them with carpet - staple on top where it is invisible, then put the pieces back in? Will be watching.

Re: Betty #2
Just in the middle of this myself.
Tried using 1/4" birch, but it just didn't work out - although it was okay for the ceiling.
I am now using masonite and, with two panels done, so far, so good. I plan on covering them with kevlar fabric and/or ballistic nylon from ebay, once the FedEx guy finally makes it here.
I like those fabrics because I can wipe them down. I always end up on dirt roads or lake beds or someplace where the fine dust just is impossible to keep out. The idea of getting it out of carpeting is a nightmare to me. I had a Wagoneer for years and, every time I thumped the headliner, a cloud of dust would come out.
I have photos, but not of the wall panels yet, in my Whitey Ford build thread.
Good luck. Looks good so far.
Paul
