ScanGaugeII trouble
I just got a scangaugeII new.. but open box. I installed it in my 2001 e250 5.4 according to the directions but the screen stays blank and wont power on. Before I return it is there something I might be doing wrong?
turned key to on position, plugged scangauge in to OBDII connector, waited about 5 mins, blank screen
Thanks guys

Re: ScanGaugeII trouble
That doesn't sound right. I had one on my 5.4 and now on a V-10, so they definitely work.
Only thing I can think of: Every once in a blue moon, mine doesn't come on automatically when I start the van. If I then poke the "main" button (the lower right one) it pops on and all is fine. I suppose you might try that?
Typically when it's put on a vehicle for the first time, it displays something like "connecting..." and then in a minute or so is all normal and good to go.
They are great to have, so I would persevere.

Re: ScanGaugeII trouble
Just as a check, can you connect to the other input on the Scangauge? (There's one on the side, and one on the back) That might narrow the issue down to the connector.
The other possible problem is the cable. If you know someone else who has a scangauge, maybe you can swap cables to test.
Your procedure sounds right, though. Plug into port, plug into scan gauge. I think even with the engine off you should see a message like "Connecting..." or something. With the engine running, you should see the main screen showing choices like Scan, Trip, Menu, Gauge...

Both of mine do this. Slightly more often than a blue moon, say 1/10 times I turn on the car. On various cars, possibly more frequently on the van.

Re: ScanGaugeII trouble
Check to see if the ODBII connector has power pi 16 ( I suspect it is the bottom right)

Re: ScanGaugeII trouble
I have the same experience as Viva, every now and then I have to push the red circled button to make it display after cranking. Make sure and try that before you do anything else that involves spending more money. Could be that easy.

Re: ScanGaugeII trouble
Did you try starting the engine? Seems like that changes the inputs from the van. Even with the engine running sometimes have to hit the l/r button to make the display.

Re: ScanGaugeII trouble
Check your fuses. There is a fuse for the OBD port power.
