I recently upgraded 2008 E350 rear SF axle to FF. Found used FF D60 on Car-Part.com for $500 from same year van. FF axle had 32 spline shafts.Swapped over 4:10 gears then upgraded to 35 spline Dutchman axles $375 and installed Eaton e-locker. As well have high quality wheel spacers to match front F350 D60 width and bolt pattern.

Double Ditto on "carringb" Semi float has to carry the load of the vehicle and the torque of the drivetrain. On a full float the weight of the van is carried on the hub spindle and bearing assembly so the axle bears only the torque to move it down the road. Although it would be good to change out your semi float for a Sterling, you can always swap out the axles for a set of chrome moly axles as well. Not knowing what condition a Sterling could be in could be worse. If you do swap, find one with the correct 4.10 ratio and an E locker and you could be money ahead!
$ gears, $ Locker, $ Set up labor, your looking at $1000.00 to $1500.00. Good Used Sterling $500.00 to $1000.00!
Also keep in mind that there is a year that the sterling went from single ABS toner ring to dual sending units, so not all will be direct bolt ins!

I have a set of 4.10 for a semi float 60 and a set of 4.56 with a limited slip as well. I see you are in Ontario but it could be Ontario Canada.

Here is a link that can help you find your entire info on the axle:

I once heard there was a way to upgrade a semi float to a full float using the same original SF axle. Is this possible? Anyone ever heard of a kit to do this with?

IMOP. I do not see how that is possible without extensive work and cost. It would be cheaper to find a full floater and add a disc brake kit, if they are available. The full float has a hub assembly and spindles like your older front axles (non unibearing type). The rear hub assembly is similar to the front as it takes caged bearings on a spindle where the load is carried. A rear full float axle would be easier to adapt locking hubs with some machine work to the hub, and the outter cap cut off and resplined than having spindles welded to the semt float. IMOP!
Now that I re-read your post I think I did see a bolt on rear spindle kit some where, or am I just wishing???

Warn used to make full float conversion kits for several axles (GM 10/12 bolt, AMC 20, Dana 35/44 at least) with your choice of drive flanges or locking hubs, cost was around $1,200, twenty years ago. Teraflex makes an 8 lug FF conversion kit... but not for your application. Even if they did offer a kit, you'd still be money ahead by swapping in a salvaged OEM full float.

A bit late of a reply but the second photo looks to show the differential speed sensor installed in the top of the housing--if that's what I'm seeing it would be the 3 channel ABS correct?

Exactly my point. So much cheaper and if found in the correct gear ratio then it is double money ahead!
I was going to mention the D 20 but I was not sure of the others!
