Dana 60... 30 spline vs. 35 spline?

Hello all. I am in the process of swapping a D60 into the front of my 1988 E350.
It is from a 1979 F250.
The D60 is a 30 spline axle. I am curious, for those of you with the D60's up front if you have the 30 or 35 spline? Should I upgrade to the 35 spline? And if so any recommendations?

For the BOM tags, I have a 35 front and back. Full Floater in rear.

Don't know if you should upgrade, I guess it depends on what your going to do with it..

I did upgrade my diff ratio from 3.54 to 4.10 and put in lockers up front, Warn premium hubs, all done by Unitrax in Anaheim, Ca; thumbs up.

On the front axle, I'll bet you break something else before you reach the limits of a 30 spline axle. That would take alot of money (axles, labor, differential, bearings) for a fairly small gain in strength.

I have a 30 spline out of a F550 under mine. As said I will break something else before the outer axle. All inners were the same.

Thanks!

Most of the kits seem to get pretty pricey.
I think I will just keep the 30 spline for now. The van should only be seeing washboard roads, sand, and light rock usage.

Agreed, you'll have to try hard to break the 30 spline.

I have 35 spline shafts just to be sure

It's dirt cheap to upgrade to 35 spline. All you need are the dana 35 spline outers( no need to go Cro-mo because stock 35's are stought. Then you need 35 spline hubs. If you need hubs and U-joint's anyway then for 70 bucks a piece you can put in the 35 spline outers. And yes the 30 spine shafts break easy if you have a front locker.

Any websites/links/resources where to find them? The "kits" I have found all run $600+

Also I am not planning on running a front locker (at this time), and only 33"-34" tires. Maybe 35", but probably not...

These are cheap and cr-mo: http://broncograveyard.com/bronco/i-117 ... pline.html

hubs aint cheap: http://extremeaxlesales.com/warnpremium ... pline.aspx

Only use dana spicer u-joints unless you jump to those really expensive ones :

Call this place for the best price on all this stuff: http://www.performanceoffroadcenter.com/storeinfo.html
He probably has a kit and will haggle if you ask.
